Several high elevation endurance events happen throughout the year in Mono County, and with breathtaking (figuratively and literally) views, we know you'll agree they're worth it!
Yoga Eastern Sierra (Y.E.S.) has several Stand-Up Paddle Yoga sessions under the expansive views of Silver Lake. Each 90 minute session includes an intro to paddle technique and balance followed. by an all-levels flow with variations. All stand-up paddle gear and safety equipment is provided. Join in on events through September with group Saturday sessions, CelestialSUP and SunriseSEVA.
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra (DSES) creates and facilitates fun, inclusive and individualized mountain sports opportunities for people of all ages and abilities by removing barriers to participation. DSES has weekly summer events like paddling at June Lake, hiking upon request and adaptive road cycling as well as summer camps through September.
The June Lake Triathlon on Saturday, August 17th is being called "The TOUGHEST race in the most BEAUTIFUL place". Whether you are looking to test your limits or experience the impressive scenery of “the Switzerland of California” there is a distance for everyone at the June Lake Triathlon! Framed by a gorgeous crescent of mountains, June Lake lies in the heart of a canyon with three other lakes, as well as many streams and hiking trails.
Mammoth 50k MTB PedalPalooza on August 17th is a bike race like no other! The course has been redesigned to include Big Ring, Paper Route, Timber Ridge, Lakes, Manzanita, Uptown, Downtown, and Lower Shotgun! Don’t miss this epic race where the vibe is festive, the dirt is flowy, and the people are fun! We’re taking the PedalPalooza to another level - it’s going to be AHHHMAZING!
The Mammoth Gran Fondo on Saturday, September 7th is fun, challenging, and breathtaking! If you're not ready to tackle the full 102-mile Gran Fondo route, get started with the 42 or 70 mile options or form a team to tackle the ride. These beautiful rides are challenging but manageable. Although there's plenty of uphill climbs on the scenic routes, they are nicely spaced-out with long, fast descents in between to recharge you for the next one.
Join the Mono Lake Committee on Sunday, September 8th for the annual Tioga Pass Run and enjoy one of the most beautiful roads in America! Walk or run 12.4 miles from Lee Vining up 9,943' Tioga Pass, ascending 3,200 feet (yes, 3,200 feet!) to Yosemite's east entrance. Advertised as a race with "only one hill", the Great scenery, tasty snacks, and good cause (proceeds from the race benefit local nonprofit the Mono Lake Committee) will be your mantra as you conquer the race!
For a nice dirt-trail race with beautiful scenery, old neighbors and new friends, the Crowley Lake Trail Run is it. The 5k/10k and kids 1k is a fundraising event for the Crowley Lake Community. The course winds through fire roads next to Crowley Lake, past Beaver Cove and Crooked Creek, and boasts beautiful views of Crowley Lake and the surrounding Glass Mountains, White Mountains, and Sierra Nevada Mountains. The run takes place the morning of Sunday, September 15th.
September 13-15th The Mammoth TUFF, is a nod to the Long Valley Caldera and the volcanic stone that defines ‘gravel’ in the area. The caldera was formed about 760,000 years ago in a volcanic eruption from which the magma still underlies it, heating underground water and fueling hot springs the event will ride by. The short course is around 45 miles with 2,000 feet of climbing and will circle the famous caldera. The long course is around 100 miles with 8,000 feet of elevation gain and travels through the Volcanic Tableland formed by the Long Valley Caldera. Prepare to be transported back in time on routes used by miners and even further back.
Another stunning point-to-point course awaits you at the Ridge Rambler Half Marathon. Come and run 13.1 miles in the beautiful Bridgeport area on Saturday, September 28th. The start of the race is at about 7,100 feet on the backside of Lower Twin Lake, beneath the imposing Sawtooth Ridge. The course remains steady around the lake and then starts heading downhill from Twin Lakes towards Buckeye Road, with gentle rolling until the finish of the race at 6,600 ft.
