Off Road / ATV

Find endless adventure of the main roads

Off-roading is popular among Eastern Sierra locals and visitors alike. With hundreds of miles of dirt roads and beautiful scenery, Mono County is one of the best places to explore in an off-road vehicle or ATV.

To figure out which roads and trails allow motorized vehicles, check out the US Forest Service motor vehicle use maps or Bureau of Land Management maps. Download the Avenza app to get public land maps synced with GPS on your phone.

For inspiration, check out our Backroad Tours in the Eastern Sierra - Mono County guide. You can also stop by a visitor center or ranger station in Bridgeport, Lee Vining or Mammoth Lakes to ask for recommendations and maps.

The Eastern Sierra ATV & UTV Jamboree in Walker, Coleville and Topaz is a fantastic event to connect with other riders and features guided rides on public lands in Northern Mono County. Visit EasternSierraJamboree.com for more information and to register (book early!) for this annual fall event.

Please note that many off-road areas are remote and don’t have cell service, so you need to be prepared to handle any situation on your own. All vehicles operated on public lands must be registered with the DMV.
